What’s up with that?
We are told time after time how healthy nursing is for our babies and it’s best for them which I 100% agree but at the same time after all of the medical advances and technology our world has come up with we, nursing moms still don’t have very many choices when it comes to birth control.
I just had my third son and at my six week checkup was informed of my choices or should I say lack there of. You can use the diaphragm (oh, isn’t that romantic) honey wait a minute I have to run to the bathroom and out in my diaphragm. Can you say MOOD KILLER? Then if you’re feeling frisky in the middle of the night you have to keep it in for so many hours afterwards. What if yo have to got to work? Do you take it out in the women’s restroom at work? Oh, come on!
So then my doctor suggests a mini pill. Yea, it’s so mini it doesn’t offer you much reassurance. I’d be pregnant on that one just by looking at husband. Ok, how about the other pill? Oh, yea that depletes the quality and amount of milk. Well that doesn’t work, I’m nursing, remember? Isn’t that why we all have this problem?
So I finally decided on my only choice that really made sense, the Mirena. Can I just say, OUCH!!!What was suppossed to be a 30 minute proceedure turned into more then an hour. Pain beyond belief. I mean, think about it, you just had a baby, your still a little tender there anyways then this. Boy then you get your period all over agian which then they tell yo it could last for 2 to 6 months.
Now I know why it really works. It’s all in your mind. Would you want to have sex with your husband after all that and with your period. They could have just suggested abstinance. Cause let’s face it, that’s what it really is.
Why can’t they just come up with something safe for nursing and not so painful and complicated for moms?
